Neal Schorr has been involved in the model railroad hobby for 50 years and has been active in the NMRA for over 35 of them. As with so many of us, he started with a Lionel train set as a child, then started to build Hi-Rail layouts as a teenager. He switched to HO in the 1980’s and his HO South Pennsylvania Railroad appeared in Model Railroader several times.
After building a new house in 1997, he switched back to O scale and has nearly completed a 1400 sq. foot rendition of the Middle Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad. His current layout and modeling techniques have been published in a number of publications, including Great Model Railroads and Model Railroad Planning.
NEW Capturing the Commonwealth - How I Recreated Pennsy’s Middle Division
Inspired by a trip to Pennsylvania’s Juniata River Valley in 1975, Neal has attempted to capture the scenic beauty of that area on his model railroad which depicts PRR’s Middle Division. He will identify the critical geologic and scenic features of central Pennsylvania as well as those of the railroad’s physical plant that are necessary to create a highly accurate model of that railroad. The layout has appeared numerous times in the model railroad press including Model Railroad Planning and Great Model Railroads.
