Mark & Jean Krause's GNW Railroad
HO Scale

Mark Krause's GNW Railroad models a route between Duluth and International Falls, MN. The modeled 1st division extends from Duluth to the fictional town of Valley Ridge. Wanting to save costs, the owners used an existing narrow gauge roadbed. This results in steep grades and sharp curves. Short trains are the norm.

Era is 1950's with all real and model railroads of the time frame represented. Steam is still king since engines are purchased used from railroads that have switched to diesel. A wide range of motive power can be seen.

Operation is old school with car cards and waybills. Under track magnets are used for hands free uncoupling. There are 20 places between 3 locations to spot cars. Four operators are required to keep traffic moving. Interchange is with GN and NP using two hidden staging yards.

The layout size is 19 x 19 feet. Control is by Easy DCC. It is located in the upstairs of Mark's home. The layout scenery is 75% complete.
