Marc LaChey (MMR)'s Cripple Creek & Tincup Railroad
Sn3 Scale
Marc’s CC&TCRR is an example of what you can accomplish in a small space modeling a narrow
-
gauge railroad in Sn3. The layout resides in a spare bedroom measuring 11’x12’. To expand his
available
space, Marc negotiated trackage rights through two closets and then installed a wye
through the opposite wall into the garage where he built a staging yard that is 18” x 14’.
The
staging yard is housed in a covered cabinet with drop doors, full lighting, and scenery.
Trackwork and Scenery are 100% complete. Track is mostly hand laid using code 70 rail. The
layout makes use of a dual circuit track lighting system housing both MR
-
16 Style LED spotlights
and new LED wall washers. All bulbs are rated for 3500K, which provides a very neutral (not
too red
–
not too blue) light on the layout.
Structures are a combination of various kits
or
scratch
-
built and include a

-
stall
roundhouse
with operating turntable, a coaling tower, two water tanks and a
mission church.
While operations are limited due to the space, Marc operates bringing trains in from staging to
the yard where the engines are serviced. A caboose swap
may be needed before a train moves
on to switch the stock pens or team track.

*Note
–
Access into the layout room requires that folks negotiate a duck under. So be
forewarned, bending is required.
