WHERE ARE WE ?

There are innumerable dining and activity opportunities in the Dallas Fort Worth area. It’s a big place to navigate. So, a brief geography lesson may help you.

The map shows that Grapevine "sits" toward the top center of a packed cluster of cities we call the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex. The red dot is the location of our convention at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center. The orange dot is the location of Grapevine TexRail Station. The blue dot is the location of a major hospital. The red outline below the Grapevine city name is DFW International Airport - and YES, it is that big!

The yellow lines in the above map are a large network of freeways connecting all these cities. Generally, there are large pockets of construction on these freeways (that usually means making them bigger). At this time there is no major freeway construction in the immediate Grapevine area.

Tolls and How to Pay Them
Elements of these freeways contain toll ways. Some freeways offer both non-toll and toll lanes along the route. Some freeways will be free and signs will warn that tolls will soon begin. The toll system is automatic so if you choose to take a toll way without having a toll tag on your car, that is okay. You will be billed at the address in the state where your car license plate is registered. If your car is a rental, consult your rental agency.

Now in case you are planning to arrive a day or more before the convention, stay a day or more after the convention, and/or during the convention you or a family member needs more dining and activity information, we created this page to give you some IDEAS OF WHERE TO DINE.

  • THE BEST TOOL

Remember, your smartphone could be your best tool to search for the kind of restaurants you may want to visit. Use your browser app or your map app and put in the city and the restaurant type (e.g. Grapevine burgers, Dallas Mexican food). Include the word “nearby”. You will get more results than you can possibly review. Maybe the information below will help you sort things out.

    GRAPEVINE AREA DINING

In Grapevine, Main Street and nearby William D. Tate Avenue are home to several dining places. There is also a large collection of neat restaurants and quaint shops in Grapevine’s North Main end near the Grapevine Vintage Railroad Depot and the TexRail Commuter Station. North Main in Grapevine is unique in the Metroplex because it has retained its look and buildings of decades ago, and is a visitor's paradise.

Here are some great dining options on Grapevine's Main Street and William D. Tate Avenue:
  • Winewood Grill on South Main
  • Mac’s on South Main
  • Bob’s Steak and Chop House on South Main
  • Fireside Pies on South Main
  • Grimaldi’s Pizzeria on William D. Tate Avenue
  • Main Street Bistro & Bakery on North Main
  • You may have heard about the famous Texas Tex-Mex and Barbeque (BBQ) places. These are the basic food groups as far as Texans are concerned. Restaurateurs offering these cuisines are always involved in statewide and local battles as to who is #1 and so on. The battles are so complex we cannot possibly cover them here. Here are a few Tex-Mex and BBQ near the convention.

  • Esparza’s Restaurante Mexicano on East Worth Street
  • Riverwalk Cantina in The Gaylord
  • Mi Dia From Scratch on Main Street
  • Uncle Julio’s Fine Mexican Food on William D. Tate Avenue

  • Also, the North Texas Wine Country site gives lots of background info about wine in the area.

  • OTHER CITIES

Nearby has been fairly well covered above. If you want to venture out beyond the Grapevine area, use that smartphone to see what other options you might consider in:
  • Arlington (like "Texas Live")
  • Fort Worth
